Monday Mischief – Making Moths

One of the reasons I love my dad so much is because he’s silly and comes up with crazy ideas out of the blue. He’ll be cuddling me and say something like, “Raven has cheeseburgers in her toes.” When mom says that’s not possible, dad says “She has mini cheeseburgers in her toes that she’s saving for a midnight snack.” Who thinks of stuff like this? My dad!

For the past couple weeks we’ve been getting little moths in our house. I like to chase the moths but mom & dad try to smack them before I get into too much trouble running and jumping on the furniture. Mom & dad tried to find where they’re coming from but haven’t figured it out.

I thought this would be a good chance to have fun with my dad. Every morning I sit on the bathroom counter and mom brushes me as she gets ready for work. When dad walked by our bathroom mom said I had a secret to tell him. She told dad to come closer and she lifted me up to his ear. I whispered to him that I was hatching the moths. He looked confused and asked mom “How’s that happening?” The funny thing is that he was serious! Since mom was just brushing me, he thought she found the baby moths in my fur. I told him that I was hatching the moths because they’re fun to chase. He turned to mom with a bewildered look and she had to tell him that I was kidding. I wasn’t hatching the moths, I was being silly just like you daddy!

My dad’s a pretty smart guy and I didn’t expect to trick him. But but since pets can get fleas and mites and stuff, and mom was just brushing me, he thought I had moths! It was fun being mischievous and playing a trick on my dad.

I wish we had moths with cat ear antennae like the one pictured. Unfortunately we just have plain little brown moths.

Tell your people to check their cotton shirts, especially the t-shirty kind, for little holes. If their clothes have holes, you have cotton moths! We have them and they’re impossible to get rid of. None of what works for wool moths works for cotton moths. Little by little mom’s been having to replace her cotton shirts with ones that are at least 35% not cotton.

    • Raven says:

They haven’t seen any moth holes anywhere. The mothes are most in the living room and not in the bedroom. But we’ll keep an eye on the clothes.

What a great trick!! We can only imagine the look your dad must have had on his face when you pulled it on him. Too funny!! Good luck catching all the moths. We like catching them too.

Raven got me for a moment. She enjoys her brown flying playthings!

I’ve never said she had cheeseburgers between her toes, but I may have told her she was made of pickles!

  19. William says:

That was quite the trick, Raven! It’s almost too bad you can’t make your own moths–you could be a millionaire!

  20. That’s pretty funny that you tricked your daddy like that! What’s with the moths though? We’ve had tons of little tiny brown ones at our house too lately, and Rita does the same as you – chases them around hte house, jumping on the furniture to catch them!

  21. Those brown moths are nasty. TW had to throw out all my toys a few years ago cos the moths ate all the feathers and fur off them. Check all your toys, wool clothing and grains cos those are what they eat.

    • Raven says:

We read that textile moths eat wool and other animal fibers like fur. Mom vacuums every week so she doesn’t think they’re in the carpet (which is synthetic) but does have my fur in it. She didn’t think to look for moth egg casings in my feather toys. Eewwww.

  22. Annie says:
