Raven watching jays on the patio

The jays have been visiting my patio. They’re fun to watch and they come right up to my screen door to get bugs from the water fountain and near the house where it meets the concrete.

Mom lets them hang around until she can’t stand their squawking anymore. You can hear how obnoxious they can be in the video.

Mom wishes we had more little songbirds, but jays are better than nothing.

  1. I love jays. I think they are spunky! Thanks for sharing.

  2. Wow! You have some fabulous Bird TV there! They are quite vocal too! catchatwithcarenandcody

  3. Brian says:

That sure looks like some fun watching but they sure do talk a lot!

  4. Annie says:

How fun, Raven, to have the birds so close to your window! There are two kitties here who are envious.

  5. oooh, we don’t have them this close – we’re jealous!

  6. That bird is saying, come and get me if you can!

  7. We, too, have squaky blue jays and they are very loud. But it’s fun to watch those toys with feathers swoop around in our yard. They make good Bird TV, in our opinions.

  8. We get the jays up close too. They ARE noisy!!

  9. 15andmeowing says:

That is some interesting bird TV.

  10. Jan K says:

We love birds, but can see where that squawking might get old! They sound a lot different than our Blue Jays. The little songbirds are definitely sweeter, but you have to take what you can get! ๐Ÿ™‚

  11. MOL! That bird’s name MUST be Caroline!

We haven’t seen any jays around here, and Mom can’t remember the last time she saw one. Right around here we have robins, sparrows, finches, hummingbirds, crows and roadrunners. We don’t see the roadrunners very often although we’re pretty sure they live in our little community.

    • Raven says:

We used to have lots of finches and sparrows but I think the jays have chased them off. We still get hummingbirds and the occasional Phoebe.

You’re lookin’ gawjus Raven. Happy Mother’s day to your mommy. big hugs

    Luv ya’

  13. The jays are irritating but they are still better than the grackles! The bummer is they will chase the littler birds off like you said ๐Ÿ™

  14. Yikes! Too noisy! The crows and squirrels around us make a racket too…and the squirrels throw stuff at us! But I love their floofy tails.

  15. very noisy but I love them! We have lots here –they even come get peanuts from my hand!

  16. Nice bird tv!

bluejays do seem to like kitties – or rather like to taunt them – they hang out on the balcony next to my apartment and Miss Frankie goes bat-s*** when she sees them

  18. BZ Dogs says:

Scrub jays have a ton of personality! I had one that would come when I called to get a peanut. ๐Ÿ™‚ I’d love to get to Carmel/Monterey once a year, but it’s more like every three or four. Still, it made for a very happy Mother’s Day as Son was with us. ๐Ÿ™‚ We also stopped by Elkhorn Slough (Jetty Drive) and saw 30+ wild sea otters floating just off-shore and a half-dozen more hauled up on the sand below us. Plus a big pile of sea lions lounging on a sandy spit a bit further out.

  19. Johnny says:

Aww Raven, looks like you and Beau have the same favourite past time! ๐Ÿ˜€
