No good deed goes unpunished

It’s a FLEA! And it’s the consequence of Mom giving my neighbor cat Jackie all that love this weekend while Jackie’s family was away.

The flea was on ME, and it jumped onto Mom, who promptly killed it. Then Mom put stinky flea treatment on my back and flea combed me. Thankfully, she didn’t find any other fleas. She’s also been washing all my blankets and vacuuming the rugs and my perches.  She’s done 3 loads of laundry and has 2 more to go before all the potentially flea-contaminated blankets and her clothing are clean.

I’d say all the extra work serves her right, but the flea was on ME, and I’m the one who has stinky flea killing pesticide on my furs! And with my allergies flaring up and me having naked thighs again, it’s not as if I need a Flippin’ flea on ME!  And I know better words than flippin’, but Mom said I’m not allowed to use them in public.

Mom should be thankful that I’m a forgiving kitty. But she should also learn her lesson that cozying up to other cats, even super friendly ones like Jackie, is risky. Isn’t there a saying about laying down with dogs and getting fleas? Well, she cozied up with a cat and got fleas….even though she is very careful about lint rollering fur off her clothes after she’s snuggled Jacki. Even worse, she brought Jacki into the house for 2-3 minutes to try to get that princess hat photo….how dumb was that?!…maybe that’s when the flea jumped off and eventually found ME!

Hopefully this was the only flea that got in the house and the little bugger didn’t have a chance to lay any eggs. Mom will do more vacuuming this weekend to try to make sure no more nasty little buggers are hiding somewhere.

And get this…Mom & Dad are going to a dinner at Jacki’s house on Sunday. They better decontaminate themselves before they come back inside MY house!

Mom & Dad will have to be extra careful about petting Jacki and not holding her (Dad doesn’t hold her, only Mom does). And Jackie won’t be allowed to explore our garage any more, which she often does when Mom or Dad are coming & going or doing yard work. Jacki will still get loves, but it won’t be as cozy as last week.

No no no!!! We did months of fleas over the summer before we finally got things under control. You so don’t want to go there. 🙁 🙁 🙁

  2. Summer says:

Because Binga and I go outside (on leashes), and because I’m a therapy cat, I am supposed to have the flea gunk on a regular basis. Sometimes my human is a little lax, but she tries not to be TOO lax, since she doesn’t want to bring fleas to any of my patients!

  3. speedyrabbit says:

sounds like some other kitty needs some flea treatment too,xx Speedy

  4. Oh, no, no, no…this is one reason that we never go outside and Mom treats as a preventative. (The dogs go out!) We do not tolerate parasites of any kind, and fleas are so hard to get rid of. *augh* I am glad your mom is on top of things. HUGS!

    • Raven says:

I haven’t been outside in months. Mom knows my short backyard adventures do put me at a little risk, but we haven’t had any problems yet. Mom always keeps flea treatment on hand, but only uses it when she sees a flea. We’ve gone years without seeing any fleas, then one will pop up.

  5. Ugh! No fleas, please! Maybe your mom should mention this to Jacki’s people and suggest they flea treat her too.

  6. Brian says:

Oh no, those little flea boogers are just evil and we have to get regular flea treatments since Dad deals with ferals all the time.

  7. OMG, I hate fleas!! What a bummer after your good deed. (She sure looked cute in the Princess hat….) Hope there was just that one!!

  8. I thought the flea population would be lower by now. We still get our flea drops monthly regardless. Maybe I should try a drop on the back of my neck?

  9. Raven, that really is too bad. We hope that bad actor is just a Lone Flea and there are no more waiting on some grassy knoll somewhere!

  10. We think your mom deserves some stinky flea killing pesticide treatment too ! They should get flea drops on the neck before going to dinner Sunday, what do you think ? Purrs

    • Raven says:

She got a little bit on herself. That stuff is oily and stinky! They’re planning on coming home from the dinner and putting their clothes directly in the laundry before coming into the rest of the house.

  11. Mary McNeil says:

Poor Jacki – if she goes outside she is almost bound to pick up a flea or two. Please don’t be too mad at her, but maybe have your folks speak to her folks about flea treatments for her.

    • Raven says:

Absolutely. I’d be shocked if she didn’t have fleas. She spends most of her time outside and we have fantastic weather for fleas.

  12. Jan K says:

Well, it sounds like Jacki needs to get some of that stinky flea treatment too….it’s only fair, right?

  13. Poor Raven! And you’ve been messing with your furrs again, huh?

  14. rut roh, I would cancel that dinner MOL

  15. 15andmeowing says:

You poor kitty, I hope she makes it up to you.

  16. The J-Cats says:

Oh no! We all started feeling itchy (Mummt too!) just reading about those Evil Fleas!

  17. Maggie V says:

Yikes! It sounds like your Mom is doing everything to fix the problem. You are right, it’s a good thing you are so forgiving.
    Sending soothing purrs,
    Winston and Emily

  18. Poor Jacki. I hope maybe her people will treat her with some flea medicine. Raven, I’m sorry you’ve been having a flare of your allergies. I hope that clears up very soon.

  19. We think you should put that flea stuff on your folks when they come back home !!!
    Purrs Georgia,Julie and JJ

  20. Gattina says:

One little single flea made such a mess ? When I discover eggs I immediately put “Avantage” on Arthur (he is the flea catcher as fleas love white cats !) and then the flea is not even born. I usually check Arthur once a month (it always starts in the neck or just at the beginning of the tail) and then I treat them all ! Never had a flea or maybe I had but it didn’t survive !
